Testimonials of Chip Rotolo and Laci
Hines (Below):
Chip Rotolo with his mother, Lisa. Chip recently worn the NC East
District
Essay Contest. Here are his thoughts on entering and winning the event:
"When I read the contest rules for the local Optimist Essay [Contest], my
initial reaction was not very enthusiastic. I felt that writing this essay
would be too time consuming and, typically, a high school student wins this
contest every year. After reflecting of the writing prompt, The Power of
One, I made the choice to enter the contest, and what a great experience
this turned out to be.
"When I received the call that I won the contest, I was thrilled.
Two weeks later, I was shocked to hear that I also won at the District
level. Participating in this contest has allowed me to meet new friends,
practice my writing skills and speak my opinion. I would encourage all
students to consider participating in this contest."

Laci N. Hines, Winner of the N. C. East District Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Here are her reflections on the contest.
"The reason I entered this
contest was because I was interested in learning about the Optimist Club,
and I also wanted to see if I could win the scholarship. It was worth a
shot. It was a good experience for me, and I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed
writing the essay. It was very interesting. You have to have confidence in
what you do in order to achieve. I believe it was a good experience for me
and it will be for other individuals. It is also a good chance to meet other
people.
"Applying for this scholarship is good
for anyone who is willing to use it wisely towards their education. The
people in the optimist Club are very nice and helpful. They are also
Optimistic; they see the good in everything."
