The Optimist Club is committed to optimism and self-development for the improvement of youth and community. Each year we hold several leadership and scholarship contests aimed at youth to help them improve their communication skills.  Please follow the links below for more information.

What Former District Scholarship Winners Say About These Contests:

Rachel Landen was a local and district winner after two tries in the contest.  She took her $1,500 college scholarship to East Carolina University where she is currently enrolled in the University Honors program.

Rashad Hauter, now a premed student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, won the Henderson and N. C. East Optimist Oratorical Contest early in his high school career.  Here are his observations on the experience:
