III. NC East District Quarterly Meeting and Convention Schedule

ALL Meetings are Rewarding & Fun Events, for ALL Optimist Members in the District and not just for the District & Club Officers

Soon we will be holding the first quarterly district meeting of the new Optimist year.  This meeting will be the first district meeting held under the leadership of your new district officers.  We hope you and as many as possible of your fellow Optimists will take part and give our new Governor Barbara Timmons and her team the benefit of your input and support.  Your participation is needed to help run this district.

This year the first quarter meeting will be held on November 7-8, at the Holiday Inn Express in Selma .  The weekend will start with an informal dinner at 5:00 PM at the Robbins Nest Restaurant, next to the hotel.  Dinner will be a Seafood and Country Buffet, costing $12.50 per person (pay the restaurant).  Please indicate on your meeting registration form how many people will be attending the dinner.  Following the dinner there will be a District Executive Committee meeting and entertainment from the Boys & Girls Homes in Lake Waccamaw .

On Saturday morning we will hold our first quarter District Board of Directors meeting.  Each club president (or his/her delegated representative) is automatically on the board and is needed to attend to help decide the affairs of the District.  A luncheon will follow the Board meeting.

Important Note: On Saturday there will be training workshops for the following Club Chairs or a representative for each: New Club Building (Adult, College and JOOI), Essay Contest, Oratorical Contest, CCDHH and Membership.

Above are links to copies of the meeting and hotel registration forms and an over-all meeting event schedule.  Note that the deadline for both the meeting and the motel pre-registration is October 24th.  After that date you cannot be assured of getting the negotiated group room rates.  Please distribute copies of these forms to the members of your club and encourage them to attend.

Past International President Ronnie Dunn and Wayne Dunn will be attending our meeting.  Let’s give them a warm NC East welcome!

Governor Barbara has a number of new activities planned for her first meeting.  I’m sure it will be fun and productive.  I hope to see you and many of your fellow club members there.

Soon we will be holding the second quarterly district meeting of the Optimist year.  We hope you and as many as possible of your fellow Optimists will take part and give Governor Barbara Timmons and her team the benefit of your input and support.  Your participation is needed to help the District meet its goal of “Serving Our Children – One-By-One.”

This year our second quarter meeting will be held on February 20-21, at the Holiday Inn Express in Selma.  The weekend will start with an informal dinner on Friday at 5:00 PM at the Robbins Nest Restaurant, next to the hotel.  Dinner will be a Seafood and Country Buffet, costing $12.50 per person (pay the restaurant).  Please indicate on your meeting registration form how many people will be attending the dinner.  Following the dinner there will be a District Executive Committee meeting.  After the Executive Committee meeting, we will hold an auction to raise money for the O.I. Foundation.  So gather all those useful, but not needed items from your home to put in the auction.  This will help support all the programs that are funded through the Foundation.  And, of course, a hospitality room will be open this evening, too, so that Optimists from across the District can share in the camaraderie.

On Saturday morning we will hold our first quarter District Board of Directors meeting.  Each club president (or his/her delegated representative) is automatically on the board and is needed to attend to help decide the affairs of the District.  At the Saturday afternoon luncheon, Immediate Past Governor Dan Durham will be presenting awards to the clubs and district officers who helped make last year such a success.

Important Note: On Saturday there will be training workshops for the following Club chairs or a representative for each:  Membership, Essay, Oratorical, CCDHH.

Attached are copies of the meeting and hotel registration forms and an over-all meeting event schedule.  Note that the deadline for both the meeting and the motel pre-registration is February 6th.  After that date you cannot be assured of getting the negotiated group room rate.  Also, if your advance meeting pre-registration submission is postmarked after that date, you will need to pay the higher at-the-door registration rates

Please distribute copies of these forms to the members of your club and encourage them to attend.  I hope to see you and many of your fellow club members there.

    Yours in Optimism,

     Bob Verne
